For a long time now Labour have been pressing the County Council to carry out a thorough renovation of the road surface on Mill Road.
I have now received the following notification from the County Council that they will be meeting our request (15th September 2014)
I just wanted to give you an update on these works. I can confirm that the work will take place Monday 20 to Friday 31 October 2014. The work will be done in two phases, City to Bridge 20-24 October and Bridge to Madras Road 27-31 October. For both phases the breakdown of work will be as follows; first two nights plane off existing carriageway surface, adjust ironwork and carry out base repairs, the next two nights surfacing and then the fifth night lining. All areas will be made safe to allow the road to be opened for use the next day.
The work will be carried out under a road closure and this will apply from 1900 to 0200. A diversion route will be in place and signage along with traffic management personnel will be present to direct traffic / pedestrians. The diversion route west of Coleridge Road is; Coleridge Road, Cherry Hinton Road, Hills Road, Gonville Place and vice versa. The diversion route east of Coleridge Road is; Coleridge Road, Cherry Hinton Road, Perne Road and vice versa.
A letter will be sent to all local residents and businesses week ending 3 October 2014 detailing the works. There will also be a press release and information will be displayed on Variable Message Signs around the City.
If you require any additional information then please do not hesitate to contact me.
We are now looking to deliver these schemes. Both will need to be done under a road closure to allow the work to be performed safely and to allow access for plant and machinery. They have been programmed for 2-4 November and 6-9 November respectively. The work is planned to take place between the hours of 1900-0200. This will help minimise disruption for traffic wishing to access the City. The official diversion route will be Brooks Road – Newmarket Road – East Road – Gonville Place – Hills Road – Queen Ediths Way – Mowbray Road and vice versa. There will be other options available for local traffic. Bus services will need to be diverted and some stops suspended. Further information will follow from Stagecoach.
With regard the actual work involved. The Brookfields / Brooks Road Junction will include the area from House #6 Brookfields (Mill Road side), into Seymour Street junction, across into the Brookfields junction opposite and then as far as the Natal Road junctions. For access to Brookfields / Burnside the bollard at junction with Budleigh Close will be removed allowing access from here. Cherry Hinton Road Roundabout will be resurfaced to include the areas connecting to previous surface dressing joints on Cherry Hinton Road and Mowbray Road and as far as the pedestrian crossing on Perne Road.
We will carry out a letter drop to residents and businesses informing them of these works. This will be done week commencing 20 October. I will keep you updated with any further developments but if any of you wish to discuss further please contact me.
