Original Invite 12-3-14
McLaren response 17-3-14
Thank you for your invitation to McLaren Property to attend the planned open meeting for Romsey residents on Monday 24th March 2014.
As you are aware, McLaren Property welcomes the opportunity to engage with local residents and interest groups. As part of our commitment to effective dialogue with the local community, McLaren and its team of technical consultants held two public consultation events in February at the Mill Road Baptist Church.
Following those events, the views of the local population are being collated, considered and reflected upon to help in the evolution of the scheme design. However, McLaren remains committed to listening to the views of local people throughout the planning process, both prior to a planning application being submitted and post-submission.
To this end, McLaren Property is not opposed in principle to attending the planned open meeting; however, we would be very keen to understand its purpose and intended outcomes, given that the scheme is in such an early stage of design development and McLaren has already actively sought and been given direct feedback, a process which will continue throughout the project. Therefore we would prefer, at this stage, to take part in a face-to-face meeting with yourself to explore ways in which we can continue to engage effectively with the wider local community.
Cambridge City has a significant undersupply of purpose build, managed, student accommodation, with the result that students are either unable to find accommodation in Cambridge or live within private rented accommodation, which could otherwise provide family housing. McLaren Property is an established developer of high quality student housing and looks forward to working with the community and others to bring forward a suitable, viable development on this derelict site.
We would encourage any local residents who have questions or wish to discuss the proposals in further detail to contact us directly or to visit the scheme website (www.millroadcambridge.co.uk).
Should you wish to arrange a face-to-face meeting to discuss our ongoing engagement with the local community in further detail, please do not hesitate to contact me directly by telephone or by email.

My reply 17-3-14
Thank you for your reply Paul,
Please accept my apologies for the delayed reply.
McLaren feel as this stage that it would be inappropriate to engage in a party political event in the run-up to local elections, in order to maintain impartiality and to ensure that all candidates are engaged equally and fairly in the process. However, as previously stated, we would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and Cllr Moghadas face-to-face to discuss the proposals.
In addition, we would welcome further discussion over participation in a public event once the local elections have taken place.
If you have any further queries or require clarification of any matters, please do not hesitate to contact me.
