LOCAL GROUPS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR COUNCIL GRANTS

Local groups are being encouraged to apply for grant funding from Cambridge City Council.

Groups have until 3 October to submit grant applications under the council’s community grants scheme.
Applications to support sporting, arts, cultural and community development activities are welcome. Organisations providing legal, financial or employment advice can also apply.
Applications will be assessed carefully to see how proposed activities will reduce social and or economic inequality in the city for those residents with greatest need.
They will also need to show they contribute to one or more of the council’s priorities around improving health and wellbeing, bringing communities together, improving employment opportunities or creating a stronger voluntary sector in the city.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Community, Arts and Recreation, said:
“Our community grants will help to support those groups that make a real difference to people’s lives in tackling inequality and disadvantage in Cambridge.

“Our funding pot is smaller next year due to the financial pressures on the council and the need to make savings because of reductions in government grant.
“As a result we will need to focus our resources in assisting those groups that can show they’ll help people in the greatest need.”
Three workshops have been organised to guide applicants through the process.
These will take place as follows:
 9 September 6–8.30pm, Meadows Community Centre, 1, St Catherine’s Road,
Cambridge
 15 September 1-3.30pm, Meadows Community Centre, 1, St Catherine’s Road,
Cambridge
 25 September 10am–12.30pm, Llandaff Chambers, 2 Regent Street, Cambridge.

This session is being run by Cambridge Centre for Volunteer Services
The deadline for completed applications is midday on 3 October. An information pack for applicants is available at www.cambridge.gov.uk/grants, or alternatively by emailing: grants@cambridge.gov.uk or tel: 01223 457875.
